Qualifications: must love the church as Christ himself has loved and gave up his life for the church (Ephesians 5:25). Serve but not lord over the church (Matthew 20:25-28). Must be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19). “With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:2-3). Do unglamorous labors that nobody else wanted to do (1 Corinthians 15:10). Lift heavy burdens (Galatians 6:2).
